Langu

Langu is a language app to help with quick memorization of languages with a dash of culture.

Process
OVERVIEW

Langu is a language a mobile app that helps travel lovers get introduced to any language they want quickly and efficiently to help safe time before and through their trips.

As well as introducing the travelers to the some of the cultural behaviors that are accustomed in that country as it can be a very important aspect while talking to the people there, and it does affect the language.

As a language enthusiast I wanted to create and app that teaches the language easily while in the same adding context to the different word options and how they are used.

PROBLEM

There are indeed plenty of language apps out there, but they come with a timely commitment in which they start the user from the basics of the language such as grammar and letters a start off point which they are not required to know in order to be able to communicate their way through their travels.

They also neglect to teach users about the culture of  said language. For in most languages cultural customs and social manners are very important; it shows respect towards that culture and its people and in some cases not taken them in consideration could mean disrespect and even put the user in a harmful situation.

USER RESEARCH
As a language enthusiast I have used my fair share of language apps and as any customer  I have experienced pain point navigating through the app.

I have created a Competitor Analysis chart for some of the most used apps out there, and located some of the customer pain points.

Most of the aspects that I focused on while where associated with the layout and design of the apps and how and if it was utilized it to help the customer with completing the purpose of the app and the user's goal.

INSIGHTS
After conducting the analysis I have  noticed that all the apps did not provide users with any cultural aspects, even when it heavily influenced the use of the words. In addition, most did not use the design as a method to help the users achieve their goal.

100%
Would like a design that helps with memorizing  and keeps them interested
100%
Would love to learn about the culture to help respect the people
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
USER WORKFLOW
I have created an abstract IA to understand the fundamental actions that the user will go through when using the app.

Creating the graph helps to understand the different function that I want to include in the app, so the app is inclusive to several types of requirements and needs.

LOW-FIDELITY WIREFRAMES
Once I had a clear idea of the information architecture of the app, I went ahead and created lo-fi wireframes to understand  the general layout of the app. There were 2 aspects I wanted to demonstrate: Memorizing, reading.

FINAL DESIGN
After creating multiple prototypes, I moved ahead with the one I thought to be the most suitable. Now I have created a High-Fidelity mockup of the final design up.
Vocabulary Access
Easy log in and sign up process. Fast and smooth access to the vocabulary page.
Explore New Culture
A culture page the introduces you to new cultures around the world.
Navigation through the app
Quick and smooth navigation through the app.
Reflection
REFLECTION
Even though in my designs I try to go for simple and smooth navigation through the app to make the users experience navigating and logging into the as simple and accessible as possible, I think I have neglected to provide a full and detailed demonstration of the onboarding.
Even though I would keep it as minimalistic as possible I would want to provide more detail to the signing up and logging in process.
